Position Summary
The Teaching Support Officer (Level 5 or Level 6) provides high-quality operational and administrative support to the delivery of undergraduate coursework teaching across UNSW Medicine & Health. Reporting to the Team Lead, the role is responsible for coordinating a broad range of teaching support activities, including timetabling, class scheduling, learning management system (LMS) administration, assessments and examinations, course administration, and stakeholder support to ensure the effective delivery of teaching programs.
At Level 5, the role focuses on delivering day-to-day teaching support by coordinating teaching logistics, maintaining learning management systems, supporting assessments and examinations, preparing academic casual contracts, managing course information, monitoring enrolments, and providing high-quality customer service to students, academic staff and Conjoints. The role also contributes to reporting, continuous improvement initiatives, and the effective operation of the Teaching Support team.
At Level 6, the role builds on the Level 5 responsibilities by providing higher-level oversight and coordination of complex teaching support processes across the Faculty. This includes leading activities related to timetabling, class management, examinations, academic information systems, myExperience surveys, ECLIPS, ECOS, and casual academic engagement. The role also interprets and advises on university policies and procedures, coordinates cross-functional teaching support processes, and drives continuous improvement by reviewing, enhancing, and implementing more efficient teaching support practices across the Faculty.
Some Key Skills Required:
Level 5:
- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
- Demonstrated experience providing effective customer service and support to clients at all levels.
- Well-developed interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced time management, organisational and problem-solving skills, including the ability to meet deadlines.
- High proficiency of computer literacy, working with a range of computer systems and applications, including Microsoft Office 365 suite including Teams, OneDrive, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook and with using UNSW’s enterprise systems.
Level 6 (in addition to Level 5 above):
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and work productively as part of a team.
- Significant relevant experience in a similar role in a tertiary organisation.
- High level ability to apply knowledge and draw on significant experience to analyse and resolve complex and sensitive issues efficiently and effectively.
- Substantial experience in providing a broad range of teaching administration support and specialist advice to Academic staff.

Progression Criteria
Advancement to a higher level within a broad-banded position is not automatic and requires the endorsement of your supervisor and approval from Senior Management. The following criteria must be met before progression can be approved:
The incumbent will normally be expected to have reached the top step of level 5 prior to progression to level 6.
Criteria for progression to level 6 will be based on satisfactory performance of all duties and accountabilities at level 6 and a demonstrated capacity to take on the duties and accountabilities of the position at level 6.
