The Opportunity

  • Full-time (35 hours week), 12-month fixed term contract
  • $132,445 - $149,228 plus 17% super (depending on experience)
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements 

The Senior Systems and Data Analyst plays a key role within the Division of Research and Enterprise in leading the development, enhancement and ongoing management of research systems, reporting solutions and data services within the Research Analysis, Data and Reporting (RADAR) unit that support the University's research community. The position provides advanced technical, analytical and systems expertise, working closely with stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective data-driven and technology-enabled solutions.

The role is responsible for leading complex reporting and systems initiatives, supporting the ongoing management and continuous improvement of research platforms, data assets and information services, and ensuring the delivery of accurate, reliable and accessible information to stakeholders. The Senior Systems and Data Analyst also provides technical leadership and mentoring within the team and acts as a key escalation point for complex systems, reporting and data-related issues, driving sustainable improvements to service quality, operational efficiency and data integrity.

The position reports to the Manager, Research Analytics and Web and has no direct reports. The role may provide day-to-day guidance and mentoring to other team members.

Who you are

You have a relevant tertiary qualification and or experience and can demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated experience within Higher Education or another large, complex organisation, with an understanding of research administration, corporate systems and service delivery.
  • Extensive experience supporting, enhancing and delivering systems, reporting and data solutions using a range of technologies and platforms, including SQL, PostgreSQL, Power BI, workflow automation tools and Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a deep understanding of business processes, systems and data flows, and translate business needs into practical systems, reporting and data solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proven ability to investigate complex systems, data and reporting issues, identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships and communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
