About UNSW:
UNSW isn’t like other places you’ve worked. Yes, we’re a large organisation with a diverse and talented community, a community doing extraordinary things. Together, we are driven to be thoughtful, practical, and purposeful in all we do. Taking this combined approach is what makes our work matter. If you want a career where you can thrive, be challenged and do meaningful work, you’re in the right place.

Why Your Role Matters:
As a Learning Management System (LMS) Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in shaping how learning is delivered and experienced across the University. Sitting at the intersection of technology and education, you will design, build, and enhance learning platforms that enable seamless, engaging, and scalable digital learning experiences for staff and students.

UNSW is rolling out a new learning management system (LMS), approved in June 2026, as a major university-wide transformation by 2030. Delivered faculty by faculty and aligned with the 2028 Flex-Semester transition for early adopting faculties, it will reshape teaching and learning.

The LMS Program goes beyond technology, combining change, training, and engagement through a human-centred design approach. Joining now means contributing to a high-impact initiative with strong leadership and a multidisciplinary team.

In this role, your expertise will ensure that LMS solutions are not only technically robust but also aligned to the evolving needs of the University. By leveraging both out-of-the-box capabilities and developing tailored solutions across cloud and on-premise environments, you’ll help deliver flexible, integrated systems that connect with a broader technology ecosystem and support innovation in teaching and learning.

Working closely with developers and stakeholders, you’ll guide best-practice solution development using agile and iterative methodologies, driving continuous improvement and high-quality outcomes. Your ability to bridge technical and functional domains will ensure that platforms are reliable, secure, and fit-for-purpose.

Ultimately, your work will directly contribute to enhancing UNSW’s digital learning environment, ensuring that systems are efficient, scalable, and capable of supporting world-class education now and into the future.

Responsibilities Summary:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable LMS platforms, integrating core University systems with Learning & Development needs.
  • Coach, guide, and mentor engineers to analyse, coordinate, and document complex requirements while supporting delivery tasks and objectives.
  • Integrate LMS platforms with external systems (e.g. SSO, CRM, grade books, student systems, video tools) via Learning Tools Interoperability (LTIs).
  • Lead solution delivery and guide the team using Agile, Scrum, and test-driven development practices.
  • Develop and execute unit, system, and acceptance testing, working closely with testing and analysis teams to validate solutions.
  • Manage end-to-end solution delivery, ensuring quality, performance, and reliability of outcomes.
  • Support user adoption through training and ongoing support, ensuring solutions meet complex stakeholder needs and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Collaborate with UNSW IT teams to manage environments, deployments, and platform administration activities.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvements to processes, systems, and policies while demonstrating UNSW Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Comply with health and safety requirements, contributing to a safe and responsible working environment.
