The Associate Business Systems Analyst applies business and systems analysis expertise to support the delivery and improvement of business systems across the University, particularly those related to student services and administration. The role plays a key part in contributing to business and functional analysis, system testing, and data preparation activities to support system operations, system enhancements and project delivery. Working with a high degree of independence, under broad direction of senior team members, the position facilitates across business analysis, system analysis, and integration activities. It focuses on building foundational capability in systems knowledge, analysis techniques, and delivery practices while contributing to high-quality outcomes.
Accountabilities:
- Play a key role in business and functional analysis activities, including gathering, documenting, and validating requirements under guidance.
- Analyse and evaluate business processes, workflows, and system behaviours identifying opportunities for improvement and optimisation.
- Prepare and execute system and integration test scripts, including capturing results and supporting defect resolution ensuring quality outcomes across complex scenarios.
- Gather, analyse and interpret data for reporting, and decision-making purposes and conduct the data preparation tasks for testing.
- Work collaboratively with senior analysts, developers, integration and other relevant teams to support delivery activities and provide practical support where required.
- Develop and maintain documentation such as process flows, test cases, system artefacts, and other delivery materials.
- Diagnose and resolve complex functional issues, applying analytical judgement and recommending solutions. Maintain and apply in-depth knowledge of student systems and their interactions with other university systems and platforms.
- Maintain a structured and inquisitive approach to analysis and testing activities, validating assumptions, identifying constraints and edge cases, and seeking guidance where information is incomplete or unclear.
- Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives, exploring emerging industry, technology trends and using contemporary tools and digital ways of working including AI where appropriate, under guidance from senior team members.
- Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values
- Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.
Who you are:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- Relevant experience in a business analysis, systems support, testing, or related role, or strong graduate capability with relevant exposure.
- Strong understanding of business analysis concepts, system functionality, and delivery practices.
- Demonstrated experience in applying standard approaches to documenting business and system processes, such as BPMN, Flowcharting, UML models, etc.
- Experience in system testing, including the development and execution of test cases, recording outcomes, and supporting defect tracking.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured processes and documentation standards.
- Good communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders and provide advice across business and technical teams.
- Strong demonstrated ability to think critically, adopting a methodical and structured approaches to problem-solving, with a willingness to question assumptions, identify gaps, and learn through investigation in complex environments.
- Demonstrated willingness and capability to learn and apply modern digital tools, contemporary delivery practices, and emerging technologies including AI in a practical and responsible way.
- Familiarity with standard office and collaboration toolsets such as MS Office, Excel, or diagramming tools.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
