Why Your Role Matters:
The People Advisor delivers customer-focused, collaborative and consistent advice on a broad range of people-related matters. As part of the People & Culture Business Partnering team, the People Advisor support stakeholders through the full employment lifecycle, uses data to inform stakeholders decision making, provides case management support, and advises on the implementation of people-related initiatives.

 

Accountabilities:

As a trusted People Advisor, you will deliver practical, expert and customer‑focused advice across a broad range of people and culture matters, tailored to the unique needs and operating context of Divisions and Faculties. You will provide timely, risk‑aware guidance that supports effective people practices, informed decision‑making, and consistent application of policies, procedures and enterprise agreements. Working collaboratively with People Partners and the People Experience team, you will strengthen manager capability, support workforce and change initiatives, and contribute to the delivery of local people plans. Acting as the first escalation point, the role offers vital guidance to business areas while maintaining alignment with central UNSW frameworks.

 

Who You Are (skills and experience): 

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Business, or a related discipline, with experience in providing people-focused advice and support in a complex organisation, or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Proven customer-service experience and mindset.
  • A true team-player.
  • Strong understanding of employment frameworks, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders and provide advice that is responsive to local needs and context.
  • Confident communicator with strong interpersonal and influencing skills, able to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting case management processes (e.g. performance concerns, workplace issues, early-stage employee relations) with sound judgment in knowing when to escalate.
  • Demonstrated analytical capability to use data, feedback, and insights to inform advice, identify trends, and recommend improvements.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgment, and contribute to collaborative problem-solving.
