The School of Mathematics and Statistics at UNSW is a leading centre for teaching and research in applied mathematics, pure mathematics, and statistics. The School is internationally recognised for research strengths in areas including optimisation, data science, stochastic modelling, algebra, and analysis, and delivers a comprehensive portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across multiple disciplines. It is organised into three departments: Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, and Statistics, and is supported by a large academic and professional staff community.
The Curriculum and Academic Calendar Support Officer role (internally titled Education and Teaching Support Officer) works within the School of Mathematics and Statistics to support a major academic calendar change project, transitioning from the current “3+” calendar structure to a flex-semester model scheduled for implementation in 2028.
Reporting to the School Manager, this 2-year fixed-term role plays a key part in coordinating implementation activities, supporting teaching and learning initiatives, and providing data-informed reporting and administrative coordination to support decision-making during the transition. Key responsibilities include:
-
Support delivery of academic calendar transition activities, including milestone tracking, risk identification, and process coordination
-
Develop communications, reports, and project updates, and maintain document repositories (SharePoint, Teams)
-
Prepare templates, presentations, and materials for briefings, workshops, and stakeholder engagement
Although this role is internally referred as Education and Teaching Support Officer, the focus of this 2-year fixed-term position slightly differs from a standard ongoing support role. Applicants should refer to the requirements outlined in this advertisement, as they reflect the specific skills and priorities of this role rather than the more generic position description attached. For this particular role, we are seeking candidates with strengths in the following areas:
-
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word), SharePoint, and project management tools (e.g. Trello, MS Project, Smartsheet, or similar)
This is a hybrid role, Monday to Friday.
Application documents: please upload your resume and a cover letter outlining your motivation for applying and addressing the selection criteria (the “About You” section of this job ad). Please keep the cover letter to a maximum of 2 pages.
