Why your role matters
The Division of Societal Impact, Equity and Engagement (SIEE) plays a key role in fostering a diverse and inclusive environment for both staff and students, while working collaboratively with partner communities and broader society to drive meaningful, positive change. The division is also accountable for delivering key performance indicators related to staff and student equity.
As a Research Associate, you will contribute to a range of targeted research projects under the guidance of the Athena Swan Academic Lead, supporting both qualitative and quantitative research outputs within the unit. This position reports directly to the Athena Swan Academic Lead, with an additional reporting line to the Diversity & Inclusion Manager, and does not include direct supervisory responsibilities.
Specific accountabilities include:
- Conduct research activities (eg. data collection, analysis, manuscript preparation) focused on diversity and inclusion, gender equity, student equity and educational disadvantage.
- Conduct literature reviews and stay abreast of current research and provide expertise on qualitative and quantitative data methods and analysis to the broader Diversity & Inclusion team.
- Provide overarching support to the Athena Swan Academic Lead and the Senior Diversity and Inclusion Officer, liaise with project administrators to ensure key research activities are effectively undertaken, such as ethics applications and modifications, data management, transcription, sharing and storage.
About You:
- A PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g. education, psychology, social work, or social sciences).
- Demonstrated experience in applying quantitative and qualitative research methods, with expertise in qualitative approaches such as reflexive thematic analysis or framework analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to research publications and presentations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to manage research tasks independently and collaboratively, meeting deadlines and project goals.
- Experience working on equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives in higher education.
- Experience coordinating multi-stakeholder or cross-institutional research projects.
- Familiarity with mixed methods research approaches.
