The Faculty of Science teaches approximately 7000 full-time student equivalents, with an academic staff of approximately 500 and general staff of 300. The Faculty is one of the largest and most complex faculties of UNSW Sydney. It comprises the School of Aviation, Biological Earth and Environmental Science (BEES), Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences (BABS), Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), Mathematics and Statistics, Psychology, and Physics. It also includes several major Research Centres and field stations.

The Student Experience Officer is responsible for supporting the implementation of initiatives that enhance the student experience and improve graduate outcomes across the Faculty. Key activities for this role include transition and orientation, work integrated learning and career development programs that are specific to the Faculty of Science.


About the role

  • $103k - $110k plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Fixed Term –  9 Months (to December 31st, 2026)
  • Full-time (35 hours per week)

The position reports to the Education Partnership Manager and has no direct reports

Specific responsibilities for this role include:

  • Contribute to and support the implementation of strategies to enhance the Science student experience, including the provision of work-integrated learning and overseas study experiences, and improving retention rates and graduate outcomes for Science students.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders within and outside of the Faculty to provide comprehensive support for the delivery of high quality co-curricular career development programs, including workshops and events.
  • Coordinate the planning, delivery and administration of high-quality student experience and transition programs, such as the Talented Students Program and Students as Partners (SaP) Network.
  • Oversee the provision, promotion and administration of existing and new student opportunities (careers and employment, mentoring and internships, leadership and development, international education and practicums).
  • In liaison with the other internal UNSW units, coordinate the Science Faculty’s involvement in student experience and career related events such as Orientation, Majors Expo, Career Fairs and other activities/workshops for current undergraduate students.
  • In liaison with the External Engagement team, develop, maintain and improve the Faculty’s web-based content as it pertains to student experience and work-integrated learning initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver quality reporting information, feedback and evaluation as required by internal stakeholders, particularly to support the Deputy Dean (Education) and Education Partnerships Manager.
  • Ensure all activities conform to UNSW policies, government legislation and guidelines, and proactively give advice to the Faculty and University in relation to relevant policies and legislation.
  • Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.  

About the successful applicant
(Selection criteria)

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification and/or equivalent combination of qualifications and work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in student support programs and/or relevant services in the higher education sector.
  • Excellent computing skills including experience with website maintenance, content management systems, Learning Management Systems and Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating and delivering events with a range of diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a proven ability to liaise with and deliver presentations to a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organisational skills including demonstrated ability to prioritise, delegate, manage workflows and meet critical deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative, work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to coordinate projects, including the ability to review and improve systems and procedures.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
