Why Your Role Matters:

The Senior Health & Safety Advisor – Contractors, provides strategic leadership and expert guidance in contractor management, enabling end-to-end Health & Safety support for contractor management across UNSW. The role ensures that the requirements in the contractor management framework (CMF) are expanded to cover all contracting works or services undertaken at UNSW.

The role contributes significantly to the continuous improvement of contractor management health and safety processes, systems, and frameworks by collaborating with the Health & Safety Performance and Improvement team, participates in transformational projects, and supports increased risk visibility through analytics and reporting.

Who You Are:

  • Extensive experience as a senior Health & Safety Advisor or Partner in multisite operations with contractor heavy environments including major projects.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve a comprehensive Contractor Management Framework and IT system encompassing prequalification, onboarding, compliance, monitoring, performance review, and offboarding.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification with significant and sustained relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Proven capability in front-line H&S Advisor service provision including complex risk assessment methodology, incident management and investigation, assurance activities, consultation, and the design and implementation of risk mitigation solutions.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and coaching skills; ability to tailor advice and influence senior leaders.

  • Track record of continuous improvement and service delivery, with demonstrated success achieving safe outcomes on initiatives through a collaborative approach.
  • Ability to act as technical expert for the design and delivery of training programs relating to health and safety.
  • Data literacy and ability to interpret insights to drive improvements.
  • Ability to support front-line leadership in planning for and responding to physical and psychological health risks including facilitation of cross functional case management response relating to injuries.
