The Opportunity:                        

UNSW’s Faculty of Engineering is seeking a Business Manager who will play a pivotal role in ensuring the Australian Graduate School of Engineering (AGSE) Industry PhD Program delivers a seamless, high‑quality experience for candidates, supervisors, and industry partners. The AGSE is the University’s hub for advanced, industry‑connected postgraduate engineering education, and this program is one of our flagship initiatives designed to strengthen research translation and deepen collaboration with industry. By coordinating operations, managing relationships, and supporting strategic initiatives, you will help drive the Faculty’s goals in industry engagement, research excellence, and exceptional HDR student experience.

  • Salary – Level 7: $113,926 to $123,301 per annum + 17% superannuation

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the day‑to‑day operations of the AGSE Industry PhD Program and provide high‑level support to the Academic Director
  • Act as the primary liaison for internal and external stakeholders, maintaining strong industry and University relationships
  • Manage program policies, procedures, communications, and marketing activities, including website updates and promotional materials
  • Coordinate mentoring, networking, and engagement activities in collaboration with Faculty teams
  • Collect, analyse, and report program data, achievements, and activities to support strategic planning and compliance
  • Work with Faculty business units to support program delivery, reporting requirements, and initiatives that strengthen industry engagement

About you:

You’re a collaborative and proactive professional that enjoys building lasting relationships across diverse stakeholder groups with:

  • Tertiary qualifications, preferably in engineering or similar and/or knowledge gained through substantial relevant experience
  • High level interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise and negotiate effectively with stakeholders including industry, academics, University professional staff, higher degree research students and the general public
  • Demonstrated relationship management skills and ability to engage with stakeholders to create partnerships and establish networks
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse data as well as to plan, organise and review workflows and processes to ensure efficient service delivery
  • High level written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands
  • A commitment to high quality higher degree research student experience and engagement
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
