Why Your Role Matters
The Maintenance Assistant provides entry-level, hands-on support to the day-to-day operation of UNSW Student Accommodation residences.
Working closely with the maintenance team, this role focuses on basic maintenance tasks, inspections and repairs, and escalating issues when necessary.
This is not a trade role and does not provide trade training or apprenticeship pathways. Remuneration is $63903 Full Time Equivalent + 17% super, which roughly equates to $32.33 per hour + super.
The role reports to the Manager, Operations and has no direct reports.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver timely and professional customer service to residents.
- Undertake basic inspections to identify maintenance and WHS issues
- Assist with a range of basic “handywork” and fix-it tasks across accommodation sites
- Complete tasks under direction from the Maintenance Supervisor and Handyperson
About You
You enjoy practical, hands-on work and are reliable, organised and comfortable following instructions. This role suits someone seeking steady, entry-level maintenance work, rather than a trade or technical position.
You will bring:
- Experience in completing basic repairs and maintenance tasks
- Good communication skills and a customer-focused approach
- Basic computer skills and attention to detail
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety and UNSW values
- A valid WWCC and a Police check (compulsory as you will be working within Student Accommodation)
The role is 3 days a week. Days are flexible; however, work has to be between Monday to Friday, 9 to 5. There is no weekend or evening work.
Expected start date is in the new year, with an end date end of December 2027.
Candidates will need to have valid working rights (student visas welcome) – this role is not available for sponsorship.
