The Opportunity

The Pro Vice-Chancellor Research Training portfolio provides leadership, support and central administration for Higher Degree Research (HDR) candidates and their supervisors, as well as training and development opportunities to UNSW researchers. The portfolio consists of a Graduate Research School, and Research Training team which work to realise the strategic vision of UNSW to prepare researchers who are globally focussed and socially engaged.

Reporting to the Manager, HDR Admissions and Scholarships, you’ll provide leadership to the team responsible for HDR admissions and scholarship services, ensuring high-quality support for applicants, candidates, and researchers at UNSW. You’ll provide expert advice on HDR policies, manage strategic scholarship programs to strengthen research capacity. You’ll also support the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Training), Associate Director and Director of the Graduate Research School.

Skills and Experience

You have in-depth understanding of Higher Degree Research policies, legislation and guidelines and proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop staff, manage priorities, and meet deadlines.

You’ll also be able to demonstrate your communication, consultation, negotiation and problem-solving skills, as well as experience in business improvement and leading change processes.

You’re also a competent systems and software user (Microsoft 365, records management, student/staff systems, Power BI, government databases) and can also demonstrate your commitment to UNSW’s values, policies, and objectives and awareness of and commitment to health and safety responsibilities (both psychosocial and physical).
