About you

Level A

You have a PhD in Bioinformatics or a related field, along with proven expertise in applying bioinformatic pipelines for single-cell sequencing, spatial proteomics/transcriptomics, and or integrative multi-omics data analysis. You’ll be able to demonstrate strong proficiency in R or Python, bash, and Linux HPC environments, and ability to meet project requirements with minimal supervision.

You’re an effective team player, capable of independent decision-making, and skilled in building collaborative relationships with researchers from diverse backgrounds, including the ability to communicate complex bioinformatic concepts to non-specialists. The role also involves mentoring staff and students, developing new bioinformatic methodologies, and leveraging generative AI to analyse complex datasets.

You can also demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives, values, policies, and guidelines, along with a strong awareness of health and safety responsibilities and a willingness to undertake relevant training.

Level B (in addition to Level A criteria above)

Additionally, you have proven experience in bioinformatics, including reviewing research grants and journal articles, and leading the planning and analysis of genomics or proteomics studies. You can also demonstrate independent scientific and bioinformatic leadership, with the ability to critically evaluate research proposals, and effectively teach bioinformatic techniques, and develop materials for short course settings. A strong interdisciplinary publication record, particularly in bioinformatic methodology journals, along with well-developed interpersonal and organisational skills, is also essential.
