Why Your Role Matters 

Student systems sit at the heart of the university experience. As a Business Systems Specialist, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our student information systems are fit for purpose, compliant, and continuously improving.  

The role acts as a functional and technical bridge between business users and IT, ensuring that Student Information Systems (SiMS) and integrated platforms support the effective delivery of the student lifecycle, from admissions through to graduation. It supports continuous improvement, solution optimisation, and service delivery excellence. 

Responsibilities summary 

  • Act as a subject matter expert for student systems and end-to-end student lifecycle processes 

  • Analyse business needs and translate them into functional requirements, system configurations, or user stories 

  • Support and deliver system enhancements, upgrades, and change requests, including testing and documentation 

  • Partner with business owners to review current processes, identify pain points, and recommend practical, scalable solutions 

  • Liaise with IT teams and vendors to investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve system issues 

  • Contribute to projects involving system improvements, integrations, and digital transformation initiatives 

  • Conduct end-to-end testing and support user acceptance testing (UAT) for system releases 

  • Create and maintain process maps, system documentation, training materials, and user guides 

  • Ensure data integrity and compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements 

  • Provide expert advice, training, and knowledge sharing to colleagues and end users 

Who you are 

You’re a systems-minded problem solver who enjoys improving how things work and helping others succeed. You bring a mix of business analysis capability, systems experience, and strong stakeholder engagement skills. You will bring: 

  • Experience working with student information systems or similar enterprise platforms in a complex environment 

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate business needs into effective system solutions 

  • Hands-on experience supporting system configuration, enhancements, and testing 

  • A solid understanding of business process improvement and service optimisation 

  • Confidence working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders 

  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, customer-focused approach 

  • The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver quality outcomes 

  • Experience with data analysis or reporting tools (desirable) 

  • Tertiary qualifications in information systems, business, education administration, or equivalent practical experience
