Why your role matters

We are seeking a Senior International Market Development Lead to take the lead in shaping and delivering UNSW’s international market strategy. This pivotal role is responsible for driving high-quality and diverse student recruitment outcomes by identifying and developing strategic opportunities across key international regions. The successful candidate will enhance UNSW’s global presence by leveraging a deep understanding of international education markets and applying this insight to build strong relationships and deliver targeted recruitment initiatives.

Collaboration is key in this role. Working closely with the Senior International Channel Development Lead, the Senior International Market Development Lead ensures regional strategies align with UNSW’s broader International Recruitment Strategy. Together, these roles are instrumental in achieving recruitment targets through effective lead generation, conversion, and high-quality stakeholder engagement.

This role also provides strategic leadership to a team of regionally-based recruitment professionals, offering direction, oversight, and performance management to ensure that market-specific plans are executed successfully. A nuanced understanding of cultural and regional dynamics is essential, as is the ability to engage with external stakeholders including education agents, government bodies, and industry partners. These relationships are critical to building UNSW’s reputation and effectiveness across international markets.

In addition, the Senior International Market Development Lead works collaboratively across the wider Marketing & Digital Experience portfolio, ensuring regional insights inform campaign development, channel strategy, product management, and student experience initiatives.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Future Student Recruitment, this role manages a team of eight direct reports and plays a key leadership role in the ongoing success of UNSW’s international recruitment strategy.

Specific accountabilities for this role include:  

  • Oversee market planning processes, performance tracking, and continuous improvement across priority international markets to drive diversity.
  • Collaborate with teams across the Marketing & Digital Experience portfolio and with stakeholder across the University, including the University Office of Global Affairs, faculties and other departments to align relationship engagement, stakeholder management, marketing and sales efforts with campaign activity, program priorities, and market insights
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with key external stakeholders including education agents, government sponsors, international schools, and institutional partners.

About You:  

  • A relevant tertiary education with extensive experience in student recruitment and market development, sales and/or marketing, or an equivalent level of industry knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and experience.
  • Proven track record in designing and executing international market and sales strategies across diverse regions and cultural contexts.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing geographically dispersed teams in a matrixed environment, with the ability to prioritise, coordinate, and deliver complex initiatives across multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with experience working with government sponsors, institutional partners, and education agents across diverse cultural contexts.
  • Strong commercial acumen in a KPI driven sales/marketing context with an ability to set targets, plan complex work plans with competing priorities and review return on investment of activity.
  • Deep understanding of international education markets, student mobility trends, and the regulatory and operational frameworks that govern global recruitment.
  • Demonstrated ability to use data and CRM systems to inform strategy, track performance, and drive continuous improvement in recruitment outcomes.
  • Experience in budget development, financial management, and ROI analysis to support strategic decision-making and resource optimisation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and contribute to high-level strategic planning.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to generate insights and translate them into actionable strategies.
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on clarity, persuasion, and audience relevance.
  • Highly developed organisational and time management skills, with proven attention to accuracy and detail.
