Why your role matters
A Research Assistant is an important contributor within the School of Population Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health, offering both hands-on research and administrative support to project teams and key stakeholders. This position is designed to support research activities in the field of Global Health, including the coordination, implementation, and administrative management of research initiatives for the Global Health team, as well as communication with the lead investigators.
The role reports directly to the Professor and Head of Global Health within the School of Population Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be required to undertake and have experience in the following areas of expertise:
- Assist with the preparation of ethics applications/amendments, grant applications, abstracts, annual and progress reports and research outputs.
- Assist with the study recruitment, survey mail outs, and respondent follow-up, including telephone follow-up.
- Demonstrate attention to detail in data entry, cross-referencing against project deliverables to ensure accuracy.
- Assist with the coordination of research activities and provide research support to meet project milestones.
- Assist with formatting and/or printing of interview booklets, questionnaires, and other study materials, research manuscripts for publication and conference presentations and posters.
- Provision of general administrative support including attendance at meetings and training sessions and responding to enquiries and referrals with regards to research studies.
- Provide straight-forward administrative/clerical support in Global Health Research Team, SPH including literature review, organising meetings, assisting with document editing, referencing.
- Develop and maintain filing systems, spreadsheets, databases, websites and other administrative systems.
- Assist with drafting agendas, minutes, correspondence, briefing notes, and guidelines for specific committees and meetings.
About You
- Advanced Diploma, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training and experience in public health.
- Sound organisational skills including ability to prioritise tasks and duties in order to meet deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to provide effective customer service and support to clients at all levels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail and analytical abilities.
- Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications, including Microsoft applications.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
- Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
