The AEM Senior Developer – Digital Solutions position is responsible for building, managing, and supporting core University websites on the Adobe suite (AEM in particular) of products, Drupal and any other future technology. This role plays a key part in enabling and facilitating the development of content, marketing initiatives, websites, analytics, and UI/UX/CX, with ownership and delivery distributed across UNSW university. The AEM Senior Developer will demonstrate solution development best practices, leveraging contemporary applications and development methodologies such as Agile software development.

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

  • Design, build, implement and configure complex IT solutions on multiple platform environments.
  • Write and implement efficient code and maintain thorough documentation, enforcing standards and practices within the digital platforms team in an Agile/Scrum/Test Driven Development.
  • Contribute to the upskilling and mentoring of Developers by analysing problems, assessing solution options/approaches, and assisting the documenting of complex technical requirements.
  • Provide accurate development estimates and ensure the reliability of estimates.
  • Convert customer needs and user stories into technical requirements, assess solution options and approaches and support decision making on technology stack choices.
  • Collaborate with the Tech Lead / AEM Lead Developer to ensure business requirements are delivered following best practices and considering technical debt implications.
  • Conduct investigations and recommend resolutions for incidents and issue reports.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, identifying novel solutions and frameworks, and sharing knowledge and recommendations with the team to enhance digital solutions and platforms.

Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through a combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the end-to-end content lifecycle, web content management, content publishing/deployment, and delivery processes.
  • Ability to recommend and implement good practices while maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficiency in AEM applications, including AEM Components and Templates, Workflows, Taxonomy, Metadata Management, Replication Strategies, Content Authoring, Versioning and Publishing Pages, Tagging, JCR/CRX Repository Concepts & Nodes and Properties, etc.
  • Experience implementing best practices in areas such as Accessibility, SEO, URL management, and Security.
  • Expertise in designing and building components, templates, dialogs, and workflows using the AEM architecture (Sling, CRX, OSGI, JCR).
  • Strong front-end development skills, including CSS, JavaScript, and HTML.
  • Experience with Search, DXP Search (Funnelback), Adobe Cloud Manager, and React is desirable.
  • Proven ability to apply analytical skills and conceptual thinking to analyse, design, and implement complex and specialised solutions, including adopting new frameworks and technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Agile delivery methodologies in an Agile environment (Scrum / Kanban) using a delivery management tool such as JIRA.
