Why your Role Matters
Join UNSW as a UX Lead and take charge of creating intuitive and engaging user experiences across the University's digital products and services. In this pivotal role, you’ll define the user-centered design vision for projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring that vision to life. 

Sitting in within the Marketing & Digital Experience portfolio, you will work at the forefront of marketing and digital innovation to support the delivery of our comprehensive Digital Experience strategy.    

The UX Lead will report to the Web & UX Manager and has 1 direct report. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the UX design of assigned UNSW projects with multi-faceted user experiences, from conceptualization to launch. 
  • Develop a user-centered design vision and communicate them effectively to cross-functional delivery teams.  
  • Lead and facilitate technical discussions with product managers, developers, and other UNSW stakeholders to ensure design solutions are aligned with business goals and user needs and aligned with UNSW Brand requirements. 
  • Conduct user research and usability testing to inform design decisions and validate design complex concepts. 
  • Lead the creation of high-fidelity wireframes, prototypes, and visual designs that effectively communicate design solutions to stakeholders. 
  • Ensure effective communication with key stakeholders and provide advice to ensure designs are accessible, inclusive, and meet industry standards for usability and user-centered design. 
  • Mentor and guide junior designers, providing feedback and support to help them grow and develop their skills. 
  • Stay up to date with emerging design trends and techniques and share knowledge and best practices with the design team. 
  • Maintain and enhance the Global Experience Framework library to ensure knowledge transfer is accessible. 
  • Actively contribute to the User Design governance working group to ensure all relevant parties are aligned with UNSW design strategy. 

Skills and Experience: 

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience. 
  • At least 5 years of experience as a UX Designer, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality user-centered design solutions. 
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating a deep understanding of user-centered design principles and showcasing a range of design projects and processes. 
  • Expert Proficiency in design tools such as Sketch, Figma, and Adobe Creative Suite. 
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively communicate design solutions to cross-functional teams and stakeholders. 
  • Passion for user-centered design and a commitment to staying up to date with emerging design trends and techniques. 
  • People management experience, with proven ability to work effectively without direction, including setting priorities and workflow for self and team.
