  • Remuneration: Level 7 $110,073 - $119,132 (depending on experience) + 17% super + leave loading
  • Location: Kensington, NSW (Hybrid)

Who Your Role Matters:

The Division of Societal Impact, Equity and Engagement (SIEE) leads the charge in driving positive change in society.

We’re hiring a Communications Officer (External) to amplify our vision. In this dynamic role, you’ll:

  • Create and share compelling communications with external media and stakeholders, as well as internal audiences.
  • Write press releases, liaise with a broad range of media to place stories demonstrating the positive impact of UNSW staff, students and projects
  • Work both on reactive and proactive stories, with an excellent grasp of current
  • political and social affairs
  • Help to facilitate media training for UNSW academic and professional staff, and develop the communication abilities of our public-facing colleagues
  • Assist external media in finding appropriate UNSW talent for interviews and stories

Reporting to the Communications Manager – External, you’ll use your expertise in public relations, communications or journalism to craft messages that inspire and inform.

You Will Have:

  • Have at least 5 years experience in media and communications
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills and the proven ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders (external and internal) to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Experience and knowledge of what makes a good story, and experience bringing those achievements to the public’s attention
  • Demonstrated experience in distilling complex information into straight forward messages for communication, in support of strategic goals.
  • Proven ability to seek out newsworthy stories and events, and demonstrated experience bringing them to public attention
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to navigate through competing deadlines.
  • Advanced level of computer literacy, a strong understanding of the Australian media landscape, a good grasp of social media and excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications
