About the Faculty:

We are currently seeking expressions of interest for a variety of academic positions across the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture (ADA) because we are building and expanding. Why The Role Matters:

The School of Education is a research-intensive School within the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture and a key player in the professional preparation of teachers and other educational professionals in Australia and internationally. The School emphasises the centrality of research and collaboration in determining how teachers and education researchers should engage in the profession. The School offers undergraduate and postgraduate NESA-accredited programs that prepare students to be primary and secondary teachers, as well as various postgraduate certificates, Master’s programs, and higher degree research programs. The School is seeking to recruit an education focused Lecturer with qualifications in primary and academic literacy.


Accountabilities:

  • Demonstrate and continuously develop a well-defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning.
  • Conduct classes, assess student learning achievements and support students in postgraduate and undergraduate courses in line with UNSW policy.
  • Design and develop learning activities and resources, and assessment and feedback using a range of suitable approaches and learning environments.
  • Initiate the development of experimental approaches to teaching and learning with the support of more senior academics.
  • Support learning progression with students as individuals (through such activities as one-to-one consultation) and as a cohort (through general course related advice) to achieve positive learning and employability outcomes for students.
  • Regularly support the School’s engagement activities, including but not limited to undertaking professional experience liaison visits, marking the Graduate Teacher Performance Assessment, participating in and assisting with Open Day and other student recruitment events, and engaging with accreditation and compliance requirements.

Skills and Experience: 

To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

  • A PhD, a teaching qualification, and other relevant qualifications and experience in primary and academic literacy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Australian education systems and successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Actively stays up to date with discipline knowledge and professional development.
  • A track record of engaging with the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning framework to apply new understandings and insights in the field of education.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, development and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Experience using and/or designing with educational technologies and online delivery methods.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence (e.g. relevant discipline-based curriculum design and development at a variety of levels and scales).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry or experience of work-integrated learning (desirable).
