The Opportunity

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering has an opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. In this role, you will develop and optimize novel asphalt material designs, testing their performance and durability against traditional asphalt pavements. You will collaborate closely with the project leader and team to share knowledge with industry partners and actively seek their feedback for continuous product improvement.

This position will give you the opportunity to develop your scholarly research and professional activities both nationally and internationally through your contributions to the writing of scientific papers and reports for international journals, your participation in conferences and workshops, and your active engagement with industry partners.

This role reports to Associate Professor Ailar Hajimohammadi, and has no direct reports

  • Level A, Salary - $110,059 to $117,718 per annum + 17% superannuation
  • Full time
  • Fixed-term contract – 24 months with a potential extension of up to three years
  • Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering is in the Faculty of Engineering that has over 3,300 students and an operating budget of over $23 million. Skills and Experience

  • A PhD (or soon to be awarded) about innovations in Asphalt and Bitumen.
  • Demonstrated ability and publications about successful innovative asphalt materials
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated track record of high-quality publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
  • Demonstrated ability and publications showing successful experimental research on Asphalt and Bitumen testing and characterisation.
  • Desired - ability to collaborate with industry to meet project milestones.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to liaise effectively with other staff and external providers.
