About UNSW IT and the role:

UNSW IT is part of the Operations Division at UNSW. The IT team at UNSW plays a critical role in enabling and supporting the University’s teaching, research, and industry engagements. As we embark on a transformative journey to cloud computing, we seek a visionary Lead Cloud Architect to guide this critical transition and shape the future of our IT landscape. This pivotal role offers the unique opportunity to drive the strategic journey for our cloud platforms, focusing on innovative architectures that enhance scalability, security, and performance. Your expertise will be instrumental in enabling our community to leverage cutting-edge cloud solutions effectively, ensuring that our technology initiatives align seamlessly with the university’s ambitious goals. The role reports to the Head of Technology Delivery.

What You Will Do:

  • Strategic Design and Planning: Architect and plan robust cloud solutions that are scalable, secure, and efficient. You will set the direction for the cloud architecture that supports a dynamic university environment.
  • Leadership and Innovation: As a thought leader, you will introduce and advocate for advanced cloud technologies and practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technological excellence
  • Collaboration and Influence: Work closely with diverse stakeholders across the university, including product managers, engineers, and senior executives, to ensure that cloud solutions align with the broader institutional objectives.

Who You Are:

  • Educated and Experienced: You possess a tertiary qualification in Computer Technology or a related field, bolstered by extensive experience managing complex projects across large, diverse organisations.
  • Expert in Cloud Technologies: With a profound understanding of cloud computing principles, you have hands-on experience with major platforms like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, and are skilled in containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Security and Performance Savvy: You have a solid background in applying cloud security frameworks and optimising performance, ensuring robust and efficient systems.
  • DevSecOps Advocate: Proficient in DevSecOps principles, you seamlessly integrate security with development processes to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Certified Professional: Your expertise is validated by relevant certifications in cloud technologies, affirming your technical proficiency.
  • Excellent Communicator and Collaborator: Exceptional at conveying complex technical ideas to diverse audiences, you excel in fostering collaboration across functional teams.
  • Visionary Thought Leader: Known for your strategic vision in multi-cloud architectures, you have a proven track record of innovative solutions in complex environments.
  • Strategic Problem Solver: With strong analytical skills and a knack for strategic decision-making, you adeptly tackle technical challenges and spearhead platform innovation.
  • Lifelong Learner: Committed to ongoing professional development, you stay at the forefront of industry trends and emerging technologies in cloud infrastructure.
