Position Summary:
The Water Safety Assistant will support the running of the UNSW Water Safety Program delivered by the Health Promotion Unit. The role assists in the delivery of the Learn to Swim program and Beach Safety Walks and supports the delivery of other relevant water safety initiatives.This program will support the UNSW Water Safety Program.
The role reports to the Engagement Officer within the Health Promotion Unit (HPU). This role has no direct reports.
This role will:
- Provide administrative support to the Engagement Officer, including setting up of Humanitix event pages, sorting enrolment information, answering student WhatsApp/email inquiries, sending out surveys and assisting with merchandise procurement.
- Assist in executing events through essential administrative support and venue setup at Beach Safety Walks, Learn to Swim (LTS) welcome sessions, social catchups and workshop presentations, and Beach Ocean Safe (BOS) program sessions.
- Under the direction of the Health Promotion Officer (Communications), support the distribution of promotional materials and water safety messaging.
- Act as a point of contact for the Learn to Swim program participants and volunteer program mentors by monitoring engagement through various communication channels.
- Participate in community outreach and promotional activities to attract participants to the UNSW Water Safety Program.
- Actively participate in on-the-job training for relevant tasks.
- Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.
A person engaged is generally expected to have the following skills and experience:
- Current UNSW student with a passion for student health and wellbeing and previous experience in volunteer programs
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate to diverse student communities as well as UNSW staff.
- Ability to follow direction and procedures and perform tasks in a timely manner.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
