Why The Role Matters:

Join the School of Built Environment in the role of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Architecture and Construction. This role will involve leading the design, delivery and review of architectural construction and structures courses. The role reports to the Director of Architecture and has no direct reports. UNSW’s Education Focussed roles (EF) enable academics to specialise in education and devote their time to delivering high-quality teaching and pursuing initiatives to enhance the educational experience of our students. Those who are appointed to this prestigious specialisation will be expected to successfully drive educational excellence within the university’s teaching and learning communities.  


Accountabilities:

Level B -

• Demonstrate and continuously develop a well-defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning in architecture, construction and structures courses.
• Conduct and lead classes, assess student learning achievements and support students in both postgraduate and undergraduate courses.
• Design and develop learning activities and resources, and assessment and feedback using a range of approaches and learning environments.
• Lead the design/development of innovative approaches to architecture and construction teaching and learning and participate in the exchange of these approaches with colleagues across the School.
• Support learning progression with students to achieve high levels of student satisfaction, and high employability outcomes aligned with industry needs (including these changing needs in the future).
• Manage course administration as Course Authority, including academic quality assurance.

Level C (in addition to above) –

• Maintain professional development in pedagogy, disciplinary knowledge and minimum professional accreditation requirements (where relevant).
• Contribute to the review, development and/or design of curriculum and manage curriculum administration as Course Authority, including academic quality assurance.
• Work collaboratively with peers across the School, Faculty and UNSW and contribute to dialogues in teaching and learning (including published articles, discourse, best practice, etc).
  
  

Skills and Experience: 

To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

Level B -

• Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, development and delivery of architecture and construction courses at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
• Experience as a university-level teacher and/or convenor within architectural construction and structures courses.
• Actively stays up to date with discipline knowledge and professional development in architecture, construction and structures.
• Evidence of teaching effectiveness and a record of educational excellence (e.g. relevant discipline-based course design and development at a variety of levels and scales).
• Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
• Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Level C (in addition to above) –

• A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience in architecture and construction.
• Evidence of leading innovation and experimentation in architecture and construction course delivery and achieving exceptional student outcomes (for instance, embedding sustainability, carbon, and circular concepts within construction courses).
• Demonstrated success in initiating course and curriculum development and improvement.
• Demonstrated experience as a recognised authority in the area of architectural construction and structures, with a record of engaging in discourse at a local and emerging national level.
