The UNSW Research Strategy Office (RSO) is at the forefront of enhancing the university's research performance and impact. We work in collaboration with faculties, research teams, and researchers to secure significant national and international funding and fellowships. By driving innovation and fostering partnerships with industry, government, and philanthropic organisations, the RSO plays a pivotal role in ensuring UNSW’s research delivers real-world benefits.
Your Role:
This is an exciting time to join UNSW. With our new university strategy shaping the future, the Associate Director will play a critical role in implementing initiatives that align with UNSW’s commitment to societal impact. As the Associate Director, you will:
- Drive the activities of the RSO to provide effective and efficient support for UNSW’s research funding efforts.
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders across thematic research priorities, faculties, and divisions to develop impactful strategies and programs.
- Provide high-level strategic reports and advice to senior staff and committees.
- Foster UNSW’s research profile and societal impact across various sectors.
- Identify and pursue major funding opportunities with a strategic focus.
- Lead a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the RSO.
- Represent UNSW and the RSO to external organisations and funding bodies.

Skills and Experience:
You have a post-graduate qualification and/or extensive experience in a major research or government portfolio, and can demonstrate the following skills and experience:-
- A postgraduate qualification and/or extensive experience in a major research or government portfolio
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
- Expert understanding of the national and international research landscape.
- Highly developed project management capabilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to influence and advise on complex policies and issues.
- A collaborative mindset with excellent negotiation and consultation skills.
