Job Summary: |
SUNY Brockport is accepting applications for a Senior Academic Advisor position. The Senior Academic Advisor works with current and prospective students to facilitate their retention and persistence to complete their degree requirements through one-on-one and group advising, coaching, mentoring, and referring students. They work as a leader in the ASC to advance student success initiatives in an environment of data-informed decision making and prioritization. They supervise, train and mentor other advisors to accurately interpret transcripts, degree audits, academic program requirements, academic policies, and state and federal financial aid compliance to support student retention and persistence. They work with colleagues in the Academic Success Center (ASC), faculty, departmental academic advisors, and department chairs to provide appropriate interventions to promote retention and persistence to graduation.
Essential Functions:
- Provides leadership throughout the center, trains and supervises professional staff as well as contributes to the overall day-to-day advising services.
- Provides academic advisement for current and prospective students including appropriate referrals within the ASC and to campus partners such as health services, counseling, and career services.
- Teaches APS (Academic Planning Seminars) or TAPS (Transfer Academic Planning Seminars.
- Coordinates departmental tasks as appropriate to assist with student retention and persistence including but not limited to first time schedules for new students.
- Maintains effective working relationships with faculty academic advisors, department chairs, and associate deans to assist students with successful degree completion.
- Presents workshops to current and prospective students.
- Serves on ASC committees and work groups to promote student retention and persistence through the review of data to provide input into prioritization of time and activities to promote student success.

Minimum Qualifications: |
- Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by a US Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.
- Knowledge of higher education academic policy, program requirements, and advising which can be demonstrated through part-time or full-time work experience, education, or clearly articulated complimentary experiences.
- Experience with supervision and training.
- Experience working with a management information system.
- Effective interpersonal skills to work with faculty, staff and students.
- Experience and proficiency working with SCT Banner, Degree Works or another degree audit system.

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Master’s degree.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
- Experience working in academic advisement or a related area.
- Understanding and experience working with federal and state regulations for financial aid.
- Experience working with Slate or similar retention software tool.

Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm |
Salary and Benefits: |
Minimum starting salary: $62,596
