JOB DESCRIPTION FOR: Assistant Director of Annual Giving – Student and Parent Philanthropy

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Support The Citadel Foundation’s mission to secure, manage, and steward philanthropic support for The Citadel. In conjunction with the Annual Giving team, work toward building ongoing private support for the Foundation’s annual giving programs. Work effectively with staff members, campus representatives, and volunteer leadership.

REPORTS TO: Director of Annual Giving

SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE:

Cadet Philanthropy:

The goal of the Cadet Philanthropy Program is to educate our future alumni on The Citadel Foundation and to create and foster a culture of giving while they are still on campus. 

  • Execute Cadet Philanthropy Program plan with on campus entities including but not limited to Athletics, The Commandant’s Office and The Citadel Alumni Association
  • Work closely with the Office of Cadet Activities
  • Meets twice a month to help oversee and facilitate the Cadet Philanthropy Council
  • Engage and educate the student population on philanthropy
  • Manage Cadet Philanthropy Week and Cadet Stewardship Week to increase student participation
  • Manage Senior Class Scholarship Campaign

Parent Philanthropy:

The goal of our Parent Philanthropy Program is to create awareness of The Citadel Foundation and to steward our Parent population.

  • Oversee the Parent Philanthropy Council and all associated events and stewardship opportunities
  • Create and execute parent appeals that include past and present parents
  • Works as the liaison between The Citadel Family Association and The Citadel Foundation
  • Works closely with the Office of Admissions to utilize parent volunteers for recruiting and retention efforts of the college

  Faculty and Staff Philanthropy and Education

  • Create a Faculty and Staff giving program
  • Assist in education faculty and staff on appeals and crowdfunding

 Citadel Graduate College Philanthropy

  • Work with CGC office to solicit and identify potential donors

 Veteran Student Philanthropy

  • Work with Veterans office to solicit and identify potential donors

 Direct Solicitation/Stewardship and Special Projects:

  • Conduct individual meetings with donors annually (with emphasis on parents) for cultivation, solicitation, and/or stewardship purposes. Maintain a precise record of donor contacts through the prospect management system. Prepare prospect plans as appropriate
  • Serve as contact for affinity appeals. Provide materials, solicitation plan, and oversee the process of assigned appeals
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to include special projects to assist in the overall fundraising efforts within the Annual Giving team
  • Assist with Foundation events as necessary

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to lead and motivate others
  • Ability to take primary responsibility for a diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision
  • Be extremely well-organized and able to handle multiple tasks to completion
  • Enthusiasm and excellent people skills are essential. Successful candidate must have flexibility to handle the needs of a fast‐paced work environment and the special needs of donors
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and to lead and motivate others, especially students, alumni, and volunteers.
  • Familiarity with and affinity for The Citadel and its mission, including its core values of honor, duty and respect
  • Knowledge of personal computer‐based software (i.e. word processing and spreadsheet applications).
  • Evening and weekend work is required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least two (2) years of experience in development/fundraising, public relations, and/or marketing, preferably within higher education
  • Experience writing and editing donor‐centered fundraising content for a wide range of digital media.
  • Experience in annual giving and/or higher education philanthropy
  • Experience with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge, GiveCampus, SAP Concur and Evertrue
  • A history of innovative solutions to marketing challenges
