Senior Education Officer - Resource Recovery

The Opportunity

In this pivotal role, you’ll lead a team of Resource Recovery Officers, ensuring they are supported, resourced, and empowered to deliver community education and engagement outcomes. You’ll work closely with councils, internal Cleanaway stakeholders, and our Sustainability team to drive continuous improvement in contamination reduction, data insights, and education strategies. This position is a 12-month maternity leave contract with the potential for extension or future opportunities.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of resource recovery and environmental education — combining leadership, stakeholder engagement, and strategic influence.

What you’ll do

  • Lead, coach, and support the Resource Recovery Officers to deliver high-quality education and engagement programs.
  • Liaise with councils and multiple internal teams to ensure contractual and sustainability objectives are met.
  • Analyse data and prepare monthly reporting and insights for councils to support process improvement and contamination reduction.
  • Coordinate and communicate between internal and external stakeholders to deliver consistent and effective resource recovery messaging.
  • Support and contribute to strategic sustainability initiatives and continuous improvement projects across the region.
  • Act as a key contact for council and internal sustainability discussions.

About You

  • Strong background in environmental education, sustainability, or waste/resource recovery.
  • Proven experience in team leadership or coordination, with the ability to mentor and support others.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with confidence in presenting to external partners such as councils.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills — comfortable interpreting and presenting data insights.
  • Highly organised, proactive, and passionate about driving sustainability outcomes.
