Payroll Manager

As Payroll Manager for our Weekly team, you’ll take charge of ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations across our multi-site, multi-agreement workforce. You’ll be the go-to expert for payroll systems, process improvement, and industrial instrument interpretation, while leading, supporting, and developing your payroll team. You will also manage relationships with stakeholders across the business to ensure a smooth, collaborative payroll process.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage payroll staff, ensuring team performance, growth, and engagement.
  • Overseeing the end-to-end Weekly Payroll function for approximately 5000 Employees.
  • Ensure compliance with industrial instruments, relevant payroll legislation, and EA provisions.
  • Provide systems expertise and payroll solutions to the Payroll and HR teams.
  • Engage in system transformation and be a change champion for the team.
  • Collaborate across internal stakeholders such as HR and operations to ensure accurate and timely outcomes
  • Provide input into audit, risk, and governance reviews relevant to payroll
  • Drive continuous improvement activities to eliminate Manual processes
  • Review processes regularly, recommending and implementing efficiency improvements.

About You

You’re an experienced Payroll professional who thrives in complex environments and has an exceptional understanding of payroll systems, legislation, and stakeholder engagement. You will bring:

  • Proven payroll leadership experience, managing and developing staff in a high-volume payroll environment.
  • Ability to prioritise, Time manage and get best out of the team.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory payroll requirements, legislation, and salary packaging.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret Awards, EBAs, and industrial instruments.
  • Skilled in LSL legislation, termination/redundancy calculations, PAYG, and reconciliations.
  • Exceptional communication skills and proven ability to manage relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in HRIS and T&A systems.
  • Strong time management, problem-solving skills, and ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven reporting skills, including board reporting, year-end accounting, payroll KPIs, and ad-hoc reporting.
  • The ability to manage other payroll resources whilst having the experience to identify what to look for when validating the models.
