ESS manages all aspects of large-scale accommodation facilities or “villages” for remote workers, providing essential comforts such as a hot meal, a clean bed, freshly laundered workwear to health and wellness facilities for those working away from home. 

The Person: 

The Head Chef is responsible for the day-to-day kitchen operations, ensuring all activity is delivered safely and efficiently supporting and promoting Our Safety Culture framework. The Head Chef will lead a team to prepare, cook, and serve good quality food for residents, guests, and/or clients in conjunction with the contractual requirements of the villages.  

The Position: 

  • Manage & lead the running of all aspects of the kitchen 
  • Led, manage, and motivate a large team of chefs and utilities 
  • Take responsibility for ordering and stock control 
  • Passionate about delivering world-class customer service 
  • Follow company health, safety, and security procedures always 
  • Experience across a variety of industries 
  • Creating and executing culinary offers across a variety of different outlets 
  • Observation of and implementation of allergy awareness controls. 
  • Previous experience in an identical role 
  • Deliver a high expectation of a premium experience 
  • Function and menu development skills essential 
  • Excellent work ethic with great communication skills 
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a professional manner 

Qualification & Experience: 

  • Minimum of Certificate IV Commercial Cookery or Trade Qualification
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a commercial operation, ideally in a bulk cooking environment  
  • Experience leading a multi-skilled culinary team  
  • Functional/ Technical Skills & Competencies 
  • A good understanding of operating a catering operation within strict budgetary constraints 
  • Experience and ability to lead and mentor teams  
  • Food Safety Supervisor's training 
  • Previous menu and nutrition planning 
  • Prior OH&S training and/or accreditation 
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a positive outlook and professional manner. 
  • Flexible approach and attitude 
  • Good communication skills
