The Opportunity
Monash Innovation is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to join the team as the Director, Strategy and Operations. This pivotal role reports directly to the Chief Commercialisation Officer and is responsible for driving the delivery of Monash Innovation’s strategic priorities through high-impact projects and operational excellence. The Director will play a key role in advancing Monash Innovation’s ambition to be recognised globally for research commercialisation, venture creation and support.
As a senior leader within the team, you will oversee financial and operational planning, lead cross-functional initiatives that uplift innovation activity across the University, and implement systems that measure and communicate performance and impact. You will also contribute to marketing-to-growth efforts, nurture innovation and entrepreneurial talent pipelines, and manage strategic projects that align Monash’s innovation services and capabilities.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Extensive experience in leading strategic and operational priorities in complex environments, with a proven ability to translate high-level objectives into measurable outcomes.
- Deep expertise across core operational functions including HR, finance, IT systems, and reporting, with a track record of integrating these into cohesive, high-performing systems.
- Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships across diverse internal and external stakeholders, and to lead high-performing teams.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives, guide strategic content development and present complex information clearly to diverse audiences while aligning with institutional messaging and brand.
- A strong interest and understanding of innovation ecosystems and research commercialisation, with a passion for advancing research impact, entrepreneurial talent development, and strategic partnerships.
