The Opportunity
Monash University is seeking a Senior Management Accountant to provide high-level financial management and strategic budgeting within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. This role supports the budget management of up to $250 million, delivering financial planning and analysis for research institutes and portfolios, and ensuring compliance with university and regulatory requirements. Working closely with senior stakeholders, the Senior Management Accountant will provide insights to support operational decision-making, business growth, and long-term financial sustainability.
As part of a globally recognised institution ranked among the top 40 universities for clinical and health sciences, this role plays a key part in supporting world-class medical research and education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive financial management services, including budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning, and complex financial analysis
- Provide strategic financial advice to faculty leadership and research institutes to optimise resources and drive operational performance
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with university staff, government bodies, and external stakeholders
- Identify and manage financial risks, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and regulations
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives in financial management, reporting, and governance
- Manage financial and non-financial projects across the faculty
About You:
- Postgraduate qualifications in business or accounting, with CA/CPA accreditation preferred
- Extensive experience in financial management within a tertiary or research environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate complex financial information effectively
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong proficiency in financial management systems, complemented by exceptional computer skills, with advanced expertise in Microsoft Office software, especially Excel
