The Opportunity

The ARC Centre of Excellence for Weather of the 21st Century is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Software Engineer to join our interdisciplinary team dedicated to advancing climate science. This pivotal role focuses on the development and coupling of high-resolution regional ocean-atmosphere models, contributing to our mission of enhancing our understanding of how the weather will change as the climate warms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Model Development & Integration: Lead the development and testing of a high-resolution regional ocean model to enable coupling to the atmosphere

  • Technical Leadership: Provide expert guidance in the design, testing, and maintenance of model improvements, ensuring robustness and scalability

  • Collaboration: Work closely with a distributed team of research software engineers and scientists across the Centre’s universities and partners to deliver well-engineered applications that meet business objectives and satisfy stakeholder needs

  • Best Practices Implementation: Contribute to the strengthening of capability and embedding of best practice software development within the Centre by influencing approaches and work practices
