The Opportunity

The Manager - Digital Buildings and Automation, supports the Campus Operations team within the Building and Property division in the delivery of their strategy and operations.

This position manages a range of strategic and operational activities, process improvements, contract management and finance management, for Monash University’s Building Automation and Digital Buildings function. The Manager supports essential operational technologies and digital systems to optimise building performance, enhance customer experience, and drive sustainability outcomes across all campuses. 

Reporting to the Deputy Director, Services, this role oversees the operation of the University's Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Alarm Incident Management System (AIMS), providing leadership, operational management, and proactive risk oversight while leading an internal team of specialist BAS engineers, supervise staff, and manage external vendors.

To be successful in this role the eligible candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience and proven technical expertise in Building Automation Systems and Operational Technologies (e.g., alarm management, smart buildings, energy management, security and monitoring systems)
  • Significant experience managing critical alarm management systems, ensuring reliable operations, clear stakeholder communications, and effective incident responses
  • Demonstrated depth of knowledge and understanding of building regulatory and compliance requirements, occupational health and safety, the Essential Safety Measures, and Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 
  • Proven ability to utilise analytics and data-driven insights to improve operational effectiveness, decision-making quality, and service delivery to provide authoritative specialist and policy advice
  • Significant staff management experience with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performance team committed to safety and excellent customer service
  • Strong financial and compliance management skills, capable of managing budgets effectively, ensuring cost control, transparency, and efficient resource allocation
