The Opportunity
The ARC Centre of Excellence for the Weather of the 21st Century (21st Century Weather for short) is a Federally-funded consortium of 24 partners, led by Monash University in strong collaboration with the University of Melbourne, the University of New South Wales, the Australian National University, and the University of Tasmania. This Centre aims to determine how Australia’s weather is being reshaped by climate change. The Centre aspires to provide Australia with the knowledge, technology, and human capital for robust evidence-based decision-making in response to future weather changes in our region and to harness weather as a resource. The Centre offers a stimulating and supportive environment where researchers, students and professional and technical staff can network, thrive and grow their careers.
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Lecturer (or Lecturer) in Meteorology to make significant contributions to research, teaching, and service in the field of meteorology. The successful candidate will have expertise in one or more areas, including atmospheric dynamics, physical meteorology, atmospheric modelling, and other closely related quantitative disciplines.
For the first six years, the position will have a reduced teaching load to allow for focused research development. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual to join a vibrant academic community and make a lasting impact on the field of meteorology.
The key functions of this role include conducting research, leading a research team, delivering lectures and tutorials, developing course materials, and supervising honours and postgraduate students. Additional responsibilities involve course coordination, marking, administrative duties related to the ARC Centre of Excellence, and participation in professional activities, meetings, and committee work.
To be successful in this role, candidates must hold a doctoral qualification in meteorology or a closely related field, with significant experience in meteorology. They should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, the ability to lead research teams, a proven publication record, and success in obtaining competitive research grants. Experience in supervising postgraduate students, coordinating tertiary-level courses, and engaging diverse audiences is essential. Additionally, candidates should have a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, fostering an inclusive environment for students and colleagues.
