Aurizon is seeking a Senior Adviser – Dangerous Goods to support the effective management of dangerous goods risks across our operations. This role plays an important part in ensuring safe, compliant and practical approaches to dangerous goods storage, handling and transport in complex operational environments.

This is a hands‑on advisory role that works closely with operational leaders and Safety teams to strengthen risk management practices and support consistent compliance across multiple sites.

About the Role

In this role, you will provide advice and support relating to dangerous goods risk management, with a strong focus on site‑based risk assessments, assurance and continuous improvement.

During the first 12 months, the role will be heavily site‑focused, involving travel across Aurizon locations to assess dangerous goods risks at each site. These assessments will help shape practical actions and improvements, particularly in relation to transit storage activities and the establishment of storage facilities across different states.

The role will involve a moderate level of travel initially, reducing over time once site assessments and baseline controls are established.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advice and guidance on dangerous goods risk management, storage, security, emergency response and transport
  • Support site‑based risk assessments and assurance activities
  • Assist with the development and uplift of dangerous goods frameworks, tools and practices
  • Partner with operational leaders and Safety teams to embed safe and compliant practices
  • Support compliance with relevant Dangerous Goods legislation, codes and standards
  • Assist with the review of incidents, findings and regulator interactions where required
  • Contribute to a collaborative and practical safety culture across the business

About You

You bring practical experience managing dangerous goods risks in operational environments and enjoy working directly with sites to understand how work is done.

You will have:

  • Experience working with dangerous goods in industrial, logistics, transport or high‑risk environments
  • Exposure to Major Hazard Facilities (MHF), DG storage facilities or similar sites
  • A practical understanding of DG legislation and compliance requirements
  • Qualification in Work Health & Safety or a related discipline
  • TLIF4065 – Ensure compliance with the Australian Dangerous Goods Code (mandatory)
  • The ability to assess risk, identify improvements and work with sites to implement solutions
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, down‑to‑earth approach
  • Willingness to travel regularly, particularly in the initial phase of the role
