Remuneration/Benefit: Starting from $124,200 (inclusive of super) + potential annual bonus opportunity, Dependent on experience.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Risk & Assurance Adviser (Safety) to join our Safety, Health, Environment and Learning (SHEL) team.

To enable continuous improvement of Aurizon’s safety management systems and processes in this role, you will support the delivery of enterprise-wide 1st line, 2nd line, and external safety assurance activities and the enterprise risk management framework and critical control management programme.

You will work collaboratively with stakeholders to understand how the business operates, identify opportunities for improvement, and support initiatives which strengthen safety practices, risk management and compliance across the business.

Key responsibilities

  • Support delivery and monitoring of safety assurance activities across Aurizon’s safety systems and processes including the annual 2nd line safety assurance programme and external safety audits
  • Support delivery and monitoring of safety risk activities relating to Aurizon’s Safety Risk Management and Critical Control Management frameworks
  • Support monitoring and maintenance of safety risk and assurance frameworks and information, including effective implementation of the frameworks through accurate data entry, governance of online management and information systems, monitoring of system-rule compliance, and ad-hoc support and guidance for key stakeholders
  • Provide ongoing monitoring and progress reporting on safety risk and assurance data, activities, and actions
  • Gather and analyse safety risk and assurance data to support provision of actionable insights to inform decision-making and improve safety outcomes
  • Prepare reports, dashboards and documentation to support internal and external audits
  • Provide ad hoc support for activities related to key safety risk topics and Safety Strategy initiatives
  • Identify and support delivery of process improvement opportunities to enhance safety practices and outcomes
  • Support the development and maintenance of SHEL frameworks, standards and procedures
  • Partner with stakeholders across business units to support implementation and embedment of safety improvement initiatives.

About you

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Experience in assurance, risk, governance or process improvement functions (safety experience highly regarded but not essential)
  • Degree level qualified (or equivalent experience) (mandatory)
  • Strong critical and risk-based thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to translate data into actionable insights
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage complex information across simultaneous projects in a dynamic operational environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Word), data visualisation and reporting tools
  • Strong verbal and written communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A continuous improvement mindset and curiosity to understand how things work and how they can be improved.
