About the role:
Aurizon is seeking an experienced and capable Regional Maintenance Leader (RML) to lead frontline maintenance operations across locomotives, wagons and rollingstock equipment. This role is suited to a leader who brings a mature leadership style, can influence culture, and consistently drives excellence in safety, performance, and team capability.
Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, this role requires a leader who can confidently guide a multidisciplinary trades workforce, manage operational priorities, and maintain high standards across safety, quality, and delivery.
- Provide strong, visible leadership to a team of tradespeople to achieve operational, safety and performance targets.
- Champion a culture grounded in I Know Safe, I Choose Safe, holding yourself and others accountable for high safety standards.
- Oversee daily maintenance operations including work allocation, workflow optimisation, training coordination, and site improvement initiatives.
- Manage rosters, performance benchmarks, and compliance with statutory and company requirements.
- Support recovery activities including derailment response as required.
- Partner with planning and scheduling teams to ensure operational alignment and delivery.
- Build and maintain professional relationships across maintenance, operations, and broader business stakeholders.
About you:
You are a proven people leader, not someone seeking their first leadership opportunity. You bring the confidence and capability to lead teams in a frontline industrial environment and can navigate complex operational demands with maturity and clarity.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated frontline leadership experience in a maintenance or operational setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence, coach, and develop your team.
- High‑level operational understanding of SAP and Microsoft applications.
- Analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making capability, particularly under pressure.
- A mechanical or electrical trade qualified is highly desirable, but equivalent leadership experience in a similar environment may also be considered
