Technical Specialist

About the role:

As Aurizon’s Bulk West operations continues to grow, we are looking to recruit for a Technical Specialist to join our Rail Operations team in Kalgoorlie. In this role you will utilise your previous experience and knowledge as a Locomotive Driver coupled with your Training and Assessment qualifications to investigate and manage the development of endorsed standards and procedures for train operations and train handling. 

About the role:

  • Leading the identification, development and implementation of optimum driving methodologies and process improvement plans to deliver efficiency across technical processes within the supply chain.
  • Deliver safe train handling tuition that will assist in the mitigation of safe working breaches. 
  • Development and implementation of yard operations standards to deliver safe and efficient operation of services.
  • Upskilling the technical capability of Train Drivers to identify and solve issues with the train. E.g. fault finding and resolution.
  • Utilising simulation and train data analysis tools to assist in decision making with a clear alignment to governance and reporting.
  • Demonstrate alignment to current best practice operational methodologies to enable improvements and alignment to rail industry progression.
  • Undertaking reviews and investigations, conduct research and prepare comprehensive and accurate reports on operational activities or incidents.
  • Maintaining a high level of competence and technical knowledge of train and yard operations and continual self-development.

About you: 

  • Qualified Locomotive Driver (mandatory) with driving experience in WA (preferred).
  • Cert IV qualification Training and Assessing or Equivalent (mandatory). 
  • Experience operating terminal plant and equipment would be highly regarded. 
  • High level leadership and interpersonal skills which encourage participation, teamwork, trust and continual learning.
  • Sound investigation, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High level oral and written communication skills.
  • Substantial knowledge of safety management systems, safeworking systems, isolation and lockout standards.
  • Extensive knowledge of the statutory regulations, Industrial Relations and policy provisions relating to train operations.
  • Champions safety and embraces Aurizon's safety strategy "I Know Safe, I Choose Safe".
