About the role: Join Aurizon – Australia’s largest rail freight operator and an ASX100-listed company – as we continue to modernise our technology landscape through a large-scale SAP transformation.

Reporting to the Manager Applications Platform & Enterprise Architecture, the SAP Solution Architect will shape, deliver, and optimise Aurizon’s SAP ecosystem to enable business transformation. You’ll ensure SAP solutions are strategically aligned with enterprise objectives, technically robust, scalable, secure, and future-ready.

This role will work across business and technology domains to define target architectures, guide delivery teams, and oversee integration across the SAP landscape and connected platforms. You’ll champion best-practice design, modern integration patterns, and emerging SAP capabilities to drive efficiency, data integrity, and continuous improvement across the enterprise.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and deliver scalable SAP solutions across modules including S/4HANA and SuccessFactors that support business transformation.
  • Define and enforce SAP architecture principles and standards to ensure consistency, sustainability, and alignment with enterprise frameworks.
  • Provide architectural oversight throughout SAP projects, ensuring alignment with business and technical objectives.
  • Design and manage seamless integration between SAP and other enterprise systems using middleware, APIs, and cloud platforms.
  • Partner with business leaders to translate strategic goals into SAP capabilities and ensure strong IT-business alignment.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging SAP technologies to enhance performance, user experience, and operational efficiency.
  • Support governance processes and ensure compliance with security and regulatory standards through structured architectural oversight.

About you

You will bring:

  • 10–15 years’ experience in SAP architecture or consulting within large, complex organisations (asset-intensive industries such as rail, logistics, mining, utilities, or transport preferred).
  • Experience delivering large, multi-year SAP business transformation programs.
  • Deep understanding of SAP modules and processes (e.g. Sales & Distribution, Finance, Plant Maintenance, HR, BTP).
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, analytical and communication skills.
  • Recognised SAP-accredited qualifications (highly desirable).

Technical expertise includes:

  • SAP BTP design & development, ABAP Restful Programming Model, HANA SQL, Fiori, and OData development.
  • Hands-on experience with S/4HANA, SAP GRC, and cloud technologies such as SuccessFactors and Ariba.
  • Familiarity with LeanIX, Signavio or similar enterprise architecture or process modelling tools.
  • Understanding of compliance frameworks (GDPR, data security best practices).
