What does the job look like?

As a Planning Manager, you will play a crucial role in our Intermodal team based in West Melbourne by overseeing the planning practices for our rail network. Utilising your expertise in planning, coordinating and analysing customer priorities, you will ensure our planning strategy is commercially and operationally optimised, compliant and meeting our customer service outcomes. Key areas:

  • Manage and oversee the day-to-day planning ensuring revenue yield of each load is maximised and in line with business guidelines and legislation 
  • Create and drive the rail planning strategy enabling best practices in planning
  • Build strategic relationships with internal operations, customers and external operations teams to ensure all plans are executed to set up our operational teams for success
  • Take ownership of KPI planning suite including utilisation, drops/pick-ups per load and other relevant measures
  • Work with key customer teams to ensure forecast visibility
  • Develop the planning team and ensure cross functional coverage across the team

  • Bachelor’s degree or Higher Qualification in a related Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, Analytics discipline (desirable) 
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership roles within the logistics industry 
  • Prior experience balancing major customer priorities within the Retail / Cold Chain industries 
  • Strong ability to build strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Proven analytical mindset with ability to understand commercial and customer impacts of operational decisions
  • Ability to navigate planning applications i.e., Blue Yonder or other Transport Management System
  • Experience in planning / scheduling highly in a transport network regarded
