About the role
Our Lake Vermont Project situated outside of Dysart, in Central Queensland is currently seeking a Health & Safety Superintendent to work within our collaborative Health, Safety and Training team working a 5/2, 4/3 roster. This project is one of Thiess’ largest and longest running projects.
This role will see you:
- Thorough understanding of Queensland Coal Mining legislation and the typical risk profile of a complex open cut mining operation
- Able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders including the Senior Leadership Team, line supervisors and the Inspectorate
- Assist with the coordination of all functional safety activities and processes including facilitating risk assessments, systems development and the maintenance of relevant records and reports
- Effectively facilitate Incident Investigations ensuring a HSE presence is available wherever possible
- Proven experience with continuous improvement to the sites SHMS
- Discover and implement innovative ways to improve the site overall approach to ensuring critical controls are applied effectively and consistently.
- Play a pivotal role in the implementation of the injury management process
- Drive a culture of safety ownership and liaise with other departments in the achievement of the site's safety objectives
- Development and rollout of safety campaigns, awareness programs and presentations
- Lead a team of health and safety professionals to deliver on business plans, maintain compliance with internal and statutory obligations and effectively manage safety risks.
- Develop and utilise team members by establishing clear expectations, managing personal performance and accountability in a supportive framework
- Have the experience and willingness to step up into the HST Manager role when required
About you
To be successful in this role you will require the following:
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field
- Experience in injury rehabilitation coordination
- ICAM Investigation experience
- S1, S2, S3 and G2
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to communicate across all levels
- Adaptability and flexibility essential
- Hands-on approach, leading by example
- G3 and G7 desired
