The Project is an iron-oxide copper-gold resource featuring multiple open pits and is poised to become the largest greenfield copper mine in Queensland.

The opportunity
Are you a Drill and Blast Supervisor with a passion for precision, operational discipline and high-performing teams? Thiess is seeking a skilled and motivated leader to oversee drill and blast activities at the Eva Copper Mine Project in the Cloncurry region.
As a key member of the Eva Copper Alliance team, you will be responsible for ensuring safe, efficient and compliant drill and blast operations across multiple open pits — delivering consistent results that align with production targets and Thiess’ standards of operational excellence and ensure our workforce meets Thiess and industry standards.
Working an 14/14 dayshift only roster and reporting to the Mining Manager, your duties will include:
Operational Execution
- Execute daily and weekly drill and blast plans, identifying any constraints or deviations that may affect production.
- Ensure drill patterns, blast layouts and charging activities are completed safely, accurately and efficiently.
- Oversee explosive management, including secure storage, handling and compliance with all relevant regulations.
Safety, Compliance & Reporting
- Lead by example in Thiess’ safety culture, completing safety observations and critical control audits.
- Manage, investigate and report all drill-and-blast-related incidents, applying corrective actions within your area of responsibility.
- Conduct pre-blast inspections and ensure statutory and company requirements are adhered to.
Leadership & Team Development
- Provide guidance, coaching and support to drill and blast operators, ensuring competencies are maintained and responsibilities understood.
- Foster a positive culture aligned with our “Speak Up” principles and Thiess’ values.
- Collaborate closely with Technical Services, Production, and Maintenance teams to support operational alignment.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Attend daily production meetings and provide accurate summaries of drill and blast performance over the previous 24 hours.
- Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders to optimise planning, execution and continuous improvement.

- Solid understanding of drill patterns, blasting techniques, explosive management and regulatory requirements.
- Strong organisational, communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to prioritise, troubleshoot and make effective decisions under pressure.
