About the role
Thiess is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Payroll Delivery Lead to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will lead the accurate & timely processing of payroll across the Thiess Australia Group's employing entities. The role is responsible for leading a team of payroll professionals, partnering with the business to deliver payroll services and to drive continuous improvement, efficiencies and payroll accuracy.
As a key member of our team, you will drive continuous improvements across payroll systems, business processes, and compliance measures. Your subject matter expertise will be invaluable as you contribute to a wide range of initiatives and projects that shape the future of our payroll operations.
Additionally, you will:
- Provide leadership, direction, support & guidance to the Payroll Delivery team and provide input into the development and implementation of Thiess corporate strategies and initiatives.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and external vendors to ensure business requirements are understood and met.
- As a member of the Payroll Leadership Team, proactively collaborate with peers to ensure collective priorities are delivered on time and to high standards
- Proactively engage with sites and functional teams to resolve issues and drive continuous improvement
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of payroll through the weekly, fortnightly, monthly and off-cycle processing of salaries and wages
- Proactively identify opportunities to automate, streamline and simplify payroll processes, including working with sites on time and attendance process optimisation
- Ensure tools and processes are in place to efficiently capture queries and that issues are dealt with expeditiously and within defined SLAs
About you
As a seasoned Payroll Delivery Lead, you bring deep expertise in managing and resolving complex payroll challenges across large, diverse workforces. You have a strong track record in managing the complexities of salaried payroll and ensuring accurate interpretation and application of Awards and Enterprise Agreements.
You are highly proficient in interpreting legislation, Awards and Enterprise Agreements, supported by a solid working knowledge of the Fair Work Act and other relevant regulatory frameworks. This expertise allows you to design and maintain compliant, efficient payroll processes and to develop your team.
Known for your continuous improvement mindset, you proactively identify opportunities to enhance payroll operations, driving greater accuracy, consistency and service delivery. Your technical capability is complemented by strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement abilities. Together, these strengths enable you to lead payroll delivery with confidence, clarity and a commitment to excellence.
Additionally, you have:
- Business and/or HR Degree, or equivalent qualifications / experience
- Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience, ideally within the mining sector
- Demonstrated experience in managing payroll for salaried employees
- Proven experience in managing end-to-end payroll for multiple awards and EAs.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and developing a high-performing payroll team
- Proficient in MS Office, including MS Excel to Intermediate standard (minimum)
