About the role
As Legal Counsel, you will support the Group Manager - Legal & Compliance in overseeing Thiess' global compliance framework, providing legal guidance on a variety of corporate law matters, and supporting the management of corporate governance, litigation, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic and solution-focused advice on compliance, ethics, and regulatory matters, including modern slavery, privacy, safety, and corporate law.
- Oversee global compliance management for Thiess and its subsidiaries, ensuring adherence to legislative, licensing, and internal policy requirements.
- Maintain and review global policies and procedures, including Delegations of Authority and Levels of Authority, collaborating with Risk and Governance teams.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of statutory reports (e.g., Modern Slavery and Sustainability reports) in collaboration with the ESG team.
- Manage internal investigations and report on compliance matters, including managing Stopline enquiries and preparing investigation reports for the Reportable Conduct Group.
- Manage the Compliance & Ethics System Registers and ensure effective reporting and documentation.
- Oversee litigation reporting and collaborate with the Head of Legal Counsel (HOLC) to ensure seamless reporting to the Board.
- Engage with external stakeholders such as the TGH Board, CIMIC Legal Team, and regulatory bodies, building strong, compliant business relationships.
About You
The ideal candidate will hold a law degree and be admitted to legal practice, with a current practicing certificate preferred. While external law firm experience is preferred, it is not essential, and compliance experience from other industries will be considered an advantage.
You will possess strong commercial acumen and exceptional attention to detail, combined with excellent written and verbal communication skills. The role requires someone who can collaborate effectively with various stakeholders and manage complex compliance and legal matters with confidence. Strong planning, organisational skills, and the ability to adapt to changing demands are essential, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Sites). Occasional travel may be required.
