About the role

Thiess is seeking a dynamic Payroll Compliance Lead to spearhead our compliance initiatives and drive payroll transformation. In this critical position, you will develop and oversee our Payroll Compliance Framework, ensuring adherence to legal, regulatory, and company standards across all systems and processes. Your expertise will be instrumental in maintaining end-to-end payroll compliance and pay accuracy while leading transformative projects and coaching team members.
 

Additionally, you will:

  • Develop and oversee the Payroll Compliance & Quality Assurance Framework, including implementing process controls, maintaining governance documents, and managing audits. 

  • Ensure payroll systems and processes are optimised for compliance, partnering with stakeholders and internal legal teams to interpret and implement Awards, EAs, and contracts accurately. 

  • Stay current with legislative changes and EAs, developing action plans and recommendations for the team and relevant stakeholders to maintain compliance. 

  • Identify training needs, create improvement initiatives, and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the payroll function through regular coaching and upskilling programs. 

  • Collaborate with the Payroll Leadership Team and multi-disciplinary teams to deliver on priorities, provide guidance to the Payroll team, and support the implementation of corporate strategies and initiatives. 

 

About you

You are a seasoned payroll professional with 5 to 10 years of experience in end-to-end payroll management within medium to large organisations. Your highly developed leadership, strategic planning, and change management skills empower you to coordinate and deliver impactful strategic outcomes. You possess deep expertise in interpreting legislation, Awards, and Enterprise Agreements, ensuring that payroll systems are configured and processes are designed for optimal compliance. 

 

With a solid understanding of the Fair Work Act and contemporary issues affecting payroll processes, you bring high-level conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills to the table. You have a proven track record in developing, implementing, and monitoring payroll compliance frameworks, driving business improvement, and providing innovative solutions to complex challenges. 

 

Your exceptional communication and interpersonal skills enable you to engage in high-level consultations, collaborations, and negotiations with stakeholders across the organisation. With a Business or HR degree, or equivalent qualifications, you are ready to lead and coach your team through both business-as-usual improvements and transformative initiatives.
