Job Summary
Reporting to a senior member of the admission team, the Senior Regional Admission Counselor plays a critical role in achieving the college’s enrollment goals by leading strategic recruitment and outreach efforts in a designated geographic region. Based in Northern California, this position is primarily responsible for the Greater Bay Area of San Francisco and surrounding counties. The Senior Regional Admission Counselor manages all aspects of the recruitment and admissions process within the region. Responsibilities include conducting high school visits, attending college fairs, organizing and hosting recruitment events, and building strong relationships with prospective students, families, high school counselors, and community partners. The counselor serves as the primary point of contact for applicants from the region, providing expert guidance throughout the college search and application process. Additionally, this role is responsible for evaluating applications, contributing to the development and execution of strategic recruitment plans, and serving as a key point of contact between the college and regional stakeholders. This position requires extensive travel throughout Northern California, with occasional travel to other areas in the Western U.S.
Job Duties
- 45% - Manage assigned recruitment territory in Northern California, with a focus on the Bay Area and occasional out-of-state travel to support broader enrollment initiatives. Plan and travel within the region to conduct high school visits, attend college fairs, and host recruitment events. Utilize admission technologies and the admission database to identify target student populations, support outreach and communication, and generate data-driven reports related to assess territory performance and inform strategic planning. - (Essential)
- 25% - Evaluate first-year and transfer applications. - (Essential)
- 15% - Cultivate and strategically manage relationships with school counselors, community-based organizations, independent counselors, and professional organizations to enhance the college’s visibility and support long-term enrollment goals. - (Essential)
- 5% - Lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of virtual information sessions that support recruitment, the application processes yield efforts, and communications for incoming students, ensuring alignment with the enrollment goals. - (Essential)
- 5% - Travel to Occidental’s campus four to five times annually to participate in professional development, contribute to on-campus admission events and programming, and collaborate with colleagues to support regional recruitment strategies. - (Essential)
- 5% - Support the planning of yield events for admitted students and their families and lead the execution of these events to ensure alignment with institutional goals and enhancement of the student experience. - (Essential)
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field to position duties or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two years of professional experience in college admissions, focusing in residential liberal arts college.
- Must reside in the San Francisco Bay Area and be available for extensive travel.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking, cultural competency, confidence in public speaking, strong written communication skills, attention to detail, and organizational abilities.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm for interacting with students and families from diverse backgrounds, strong interpersonal skills, and a collaborative approach to decision-making, along with the ability to work autonomously and a commitment to customer service.
- Demonstrate a dedication to a residential liberal arts education and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Knowledge of effective communication practices, including public speaking experience. Ability to uphold institutional confidentiality at all times.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team as well as independently.
- Ability to travel in and out of state.
- Valid California Driver’s License and ability to meet the College’s Driving Policy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google drives/folders/forms, Adobe Acrobat, Web Editing, and social media applications or any combination of productivity programs applicable to position responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three years of progressively responsible experience in college admissions, student recruitment or related field.
- Prior experience recruiting in the San Francisco Bay area.
EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: $68,640/yr-$75,000/yr
If you are offered this position at Occidental College, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, experience, and/or geographic location. In addition to those factors, Occidental complies with applicable pay equity laws and considers internal equity among current employees when developing the final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
