Advertised Salary: Minimum of $1,353 per credit hour, if advanced degree held in primary academic discipline the minimum rate increases to $1,458 per credit hour. Salary commensurate with qualifications pursuant to the FSU and FNTFO/AFT Agreement.

Summary of Position: The College of Engineering Technology is seeking temporary faculty to teach AAS and/or BS-level coursework involving Industrial, Electronics, and Automation Technology. Typical subject matter includes DC / AC circuit analysis, Industrial Electronics, Motors and Motor Controls, Programmable Logic Controllers, Digital Systems, Electronic Devices and Sensors.

The anticipated start date of this position is August 2026 at the earliest and January 2027 at the latest.

This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired as needed to teach classes on a semester-by-semester basis.

Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's Campuses. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan by the first day of employment and will perform duties at a Ferris site.

The selected candidate for this position must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire without employer assistance or sponsorship now or in the future. The university will not assist with any F1 EAD’s, OPT, H1B, etc.

Required Education: Must meet College Faculty Qualification Guidelines and applicable accreditation requirements through academic credentials and/or approved tested experience.
Faculty Qualification by Credential
Faculty teaching associate-level (100- and 200-level) courses must possess a bachelor's degree or higher in the teaching discipline or a closely related field.
Faculty teaching baccalaureate-level (300- and 400-level) courses must possess a master's degree in the teaching discipline or a closely related field, or a master's degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline.
Faculty teaching graduate-level courses must possess a terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a closely related field, or an approved practice-based terminal qualification as defined by College guidelines.
Faculty Qualification by Tested Experience
Candidates who do not meet the academic credential requirements may qualify through approved tested experience, including relevant industry experience, licensure, certifications, and other non-degree credentials, as defined by the College's Faculty Qualification Guidelines.
 
Required Work Experience: Faculty Qualification by Credential:
When determining acceptable qualifications by credential, the standard to teach college level courses is a degree in field, or subfield, at least one level higher than the degree taught.
The standard to teach college credit courses at the associate degree level (1XX, 2XX) shall be the bachelor's (or higher) degree in field or closely related area.
The standard to teach college credit courses at the baccalaureate level (3XX, 4XX) shall be the master's degree in field or closely related area or a master's degree and 18 graduate hours in field.
The standard to teach college credit courses at the graduate level shall be a terminal degree in field or closely related area; or a practice terminal qualification as defined by the college faculty qualification guideline.

Faculty Qualification by Tested Experience:
Tested experience may include discipline specific certifications, licensure, and/or other approved non-degree credentials and possess a breadth and depth of experience outside of the classroom in real-world situations relevant to the discipline or subfield for the specific course or courses they will teach.
Quality and Nature of Tested Experience
The quality and nature of the tested experience shall be at a professional level; demonstrate the integration and application of an appropriate body of knowledge; illustrate a progressive level of applied knowledge and responsible charge of professional work. The experience shall illustrate professional expertise at a level to be foundational to the development of professional judgement that safeguards public property and life safety. The experience shall relate directly to the content of the course taught. The experience shall be documented. It should be noted that experience teaching in the discipline does not count toward tested experience.

The following combinations of education and experience shall be considered qualifying tested experience to teach at the associates level (lxx, 2xx). The experience considered shall comply with the quality and nature of tested experience defined above.

• a bachelor's degree or higher out of field and an associate's degree in field and 5 years of relevant industry experience.
• a bachelor's degree out of field and 7 years of relevant industry experience.
• An associate's degree in field and 7 years of relevant industry experience

The following combinations of education and experience shall be considered qualifying tested experience to teach at the baccalaureate level (3xx,4xx). The experience considered shall comply with the quality and nature of tested experience defined above.

• A master's or higher-level degree out of field with at least one bachelor's or associate's degree in field and 5 years of relevant industry experience directly related to course taught.
• A bachelor's degree in field and 7 years of relevant industry experience directly related to course taught; or, an associate's degree in field and any baccalaureate degree and 7 years of relevant industry experience.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered:    
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Instruct students in the BS Electronics and Automation Engineering Technology, AAS Industrial Automation Engineering Technology and related programs.

Primary responsibility is teaching. Typical subject matter includes DC / AC circuit analysis, Industrial Electronics, Motors and Motor Controls, Programmable Logic Controllers, Digital Systems, Electronic Devices and Sensors.

This may include off campus or on-line content. Teaching includes keeping of scheduled office hours convenient for students.

Development of lectures and commensurate laboratory work to compliment lecture materials. Subject matter is delivered in accordance with teaching objectives that are outlined in the course syllabus.

Timely grading of submitted materials and feedback of student work.

Ancillary responsibilities include orientation, registration, assessment, programmatic and college meetings.

Carries out responsibilities in accordance with university policies and applicable laws.

Cultivate an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty and staff to thrive authentically.

Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.

Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.

Faculty members also have professional responsibilities, which may include but are not limited to keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students) and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (i.e. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment.
 
Marginal Duties/Responsibilities: Attend meetings as needed.  
Skills and Abilities: Computer skills commensurate with delivery of instruction. Including the ability to use/learn the university Learning Management System - Canvas.

Demonstrated successful experience working directly with people from diverse backgrounds, including cultural, educational, socioeconomic, and life experiences.
