Summary of Position: The English, Literature, and World Languages Department seeks applications for adjunct faculty members hired on a semester-by-semester basis to teach at our main Big Rapids campus and other Michigan locations. The English, Literature, and World Languages Department will contact potential applicants when there are available openings. Teaching and related responsibilities include but are not limited to: teaching introductory, intermediate, or advanced Spanish or French language courses using face-to-face, mixed, and/or online modes of delivery. This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired as needed to teach classes on a semester-by-semester basis for Fall 2026 and/or Spring 2027. This posting is for face-to-face and/or online instruction.

Courses taught in person on one of Ferris State University's Campuses or approved FSU sites. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment and will perform duties at a Ferris site.

Courses that are taught 100% online. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan*, Illinois (excluding Chicago), Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Ohio, Texas, or Wisconsin after acceptance of employment and the duration of time performing services for Ferris State University. If you relocate after being hired to a state not listed above, your employment with Ferris will not continue. * Please note that if you reside in Michigan, the position will be part of the Ferris Non-Tenure Track Faculty Organization (FNTFO).

The start date of this position is August 2026 and/or January 2027.

Required Education: Master's degree in Spanish or French, linguistics, Hispanic or Francophone cultural studies, or a related field, with at least 18 graduate credits in the target language (Spanish or French) to be taught and near-native fluency (ACTFL Advanced Mid level) in the target language to be taught.  
Required Work Experience: Demonstrated ability to effectively teach college-level French or Spanish courses taught fully in the target language.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered:    
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: 1. Teach Spanish or French courses using face-to-face, mixed and/or online modes of delivery. Includes meeting classes at their scheduled times, holding regular office hours, providing meaningful and timely feedback to students, and submitting syllabi and other materials to department as requested.

2. Use teaching-related technologies as determined appropriate.

3. Maintain a safe and engaging learning environment.

4. Assure learning by participating in assessment, mentoring, and professional development activity.

5. Cultivate an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty and staff to thrive authentically.

6. Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.

7. Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.

8. Faculty members also have professional responsibilities, which may include but are not limited to keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students) and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (i.e. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment.

9.Courses are to be taught 100% online. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan, Illinois (excluding Chicago), Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Ohio, Texas or Wisconsin by the first day of employment and for the duration of time of performing services for Ferris State University.
