| Summary of Position: |
The Student Life Intern will bring a vital student voice and social work/social justice lens to the Student Life office, helping to transform how the university supports students and addresses community standards. The intern will apply their developing professional skills and lived experience as a student to evaluate and reimagine office practices, identifying ways to better support students financially and holistically while centering equity and accessibility. The intern will contribute to shifting the conduct process toward a more restorative justice and educational approach, examining how policies and procedures can prioritize student learning, accountability, and community repair over punitive measures. Through front desk support, outreach calls, CARE team participation, and case management using Maxient, the intern will gain hands-on experience while simultaneously serving as a bridge between students and administration. |

| Position Requirements: |
-Must be currently enrolled in the Social Work Program at Ferris State University.
-Must have completed all prerequisite Social Work Program coursework and requirements necessary to qualify for the internship stage. |

| Essential Duties/Responsibilities: |
-Staff the Student Life office front desk, providing assistance to students who walk in or call seeking support with care/basic needs, community standards, or general student life inquiries
-Conduct outreach calls to students identified as needing care resources or involved in potential policy violations
-Participate in CARE team meetings to discuss and support students of concern
-Assist with case management and documentation using the Maxient software system
-Evaluate Student Life office procedures and practices from both student and social work perspectives to identify opportunities for enhanced support and cultural responsiveness
-Complete assigned projects aimed at improving service delivery, efficiency, and equity in student support initiatives
-Apply social work principles including harm reduction, restorative justice, and crisis response to support students from diverse backgrounds
-Maintain compliance with all state and federal laws and guidelines related to higher education, including confidentiality and privacy regulations
-Participate in professional development opportunities including training sessions, workshops, and staff meetings
-Assist in organizing and promoting events that build community, increase awareness of available resources, and foster student engagement
-Other duties as assigned |
